Food Poisoning and Storms Don’t Stop Twins

The Minnesota Twins looked to win their second straight game in the Bronx on Saturday May 9th when Les Straker took the mound.  The Twins would be without six different starters after a severe food poisoning incident at a local Taco Town in New York. All six players that ate at the establishment all were later hospitalized.  Tim Laudner, Gary Gaetti, Tom Brunansky, Dan Gladden, Steve Lombardozzi, and Kent Hrbek were all later released and sent back to their hotels.  The Minnesota reserves stepped up and put runs on the board early, led by a three-run double from Roy Smalley.  The game would then be stopped due to a strong wave of thunderstorms in the 6th inning.  Two hours later the game was called.  The Twins’ 5-2 victory pushed the Twins to 15-14 on the year with a chance to earn a series sweep tomorrow afternoon when ace Frank Viola takes the mound.image
